Pee-Wee as Himself Leads Documentary Emmy Nominations

Pee-wee as Himself leads the documentary and nonfiction side of this year’s Primetime Emmy nominations. The documentary directed by Matt Wolf scored six nominations including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special. The documentary offers an intimate portrait of late TV icon Paul Reubens as he gives a rare interview as himself, rather than his media Pee-wee Herman, who delighted children in a career marked by controversy. On Pee-wee’s heels is Will & Harper, which scored five nominations after coming up short at the Oscars. Ditto the Christopher Reeve doc Super/Man, which also scored five nominations but missed the top category. Winners for the Emmys will be revealed in September.
