Herbert von Karajan was an important conductor who created film and later video productions under his own responsibility. “I was actually born too early,” he once said, fully aware that the possibilities of video were still in their very early stages. Georg Wübbolt interviewed members of Karajan’s team: his director of photography, his editor, his secretary, his producer, and musicians from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. This documentary includes outstanding performance material from the Unitel and Telemondial libraries, as well as previously unreleased, digitally remastered excerpts from the legendary RBB (SFB) and ORF archives.
